Overview

At Stanley Black & Decker (SBD), I led the product design for an asset and jobsite management mobile app. The platform lets site managers monitor field equipment and smart toolboxes in real time, track which crew checked out specific tools and where they are on the jobsite, and make sure all gear is returned to the toolboxes at the end of each workday.

The challenge

Contractors lose time and money on misplaced tools across busy jobsites, and site managers have no simple way to know who took what, where it is, or whether it came back.

The solution

A DeWalt smart toolbox with ToolTags, paired to a mobile app: a live map of toolboxes and tools, alerts when something leaves the box, an end-of-day inventory check, a finder that guides you to a tool, and team chat.

Process

  1. 01

    Discover

Interviews, analytics and stakeholder workshops to map the real problems behind tool tracking.

  2. 02

    Define

Synthesised findings into user journeys, priorities and clear success metrics.

  3. 03

    Design

Iterated from flows and wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes inside a shared design system.

  4. 04

    Validate & ship

Usability tests with real users, then close collaboration with engineering through launch.
